Abbey’s philosophy of care is to focus on building a strong therapeutic alliance with clients that helps them feel empowered to prioritize their mental health and wellbeing. She wants to meet people where they’re at in life and explore evidence-based treatment modalities that they feel would be beneficial; that could include medication management, psychotherapy, transcranial magnetic stimulation (TMS), ecotherapy, mindfulness and meditation, creative therapies, or lifestyle modifications. Her goal is to create a non-judgmental space where she can guide and assist people on their journey to a life where they aren’t being controlled by their mental health symptoms.
Abbey is interested in working with adults that have a wide range of mental health concerns. She loves to read and since high school she has been interested in learning about psychology, human behavior and understanding the why behind it all. She has a strong desire to explore additional certifications that are holistic and complementary in nature that she can then provide to the clients she serves.
Dr. Leikvoll has extensive inpatient mental health experience at the Anoka Metro Regional Treatment Center, as well as on the adult and adolescent mental health units at the St. Cloud Hospital. She is looking forward to a change of pace that comes with working at an outpatient clinic, such as the ability to follow clients throughout their care and see the progress they’ve made. She received her Doctorate in Nursing Practice, specializing in psychiatric mental health nursing in May, 2023 and also her Bachelor of Science degree in nursing at the College of St. Scholastica, in Duluth, MN.
